STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State (7-2-2, 1-0-2 Big 12) used a goal by senior midfielder Melissa Wykes with seven minutes remaining in regulation to tie Kansas, 1-1 in overtime, Friday night at the OSU Soccer Complex.
Sophomore defender Julie Harris was ejected at the 98 minute mark leaving OSU to compete with 10 players during the last 22 minutes of the contest.
Oklahoma State dominated the match statistically, outshooting the Jayhawks 23-10 including a 10-2 advantage in the second half.
Head coach Karen Hancock was pleased with the way the team fought in the game but noted their missed opportunities.
"I thought our team showed alot of effort throughout the game and never gave up. I was disappointed that we didn't convert on our scoring opportunities, but at the same time I am pleased that Melissa Wykes took advantage of hers," said Hancock.
The contest was very physical as both teams combined for 51 fouls, three yellow cards and one red card.
Kansas (5-5-1, 1-1-1 Big 12) opened the scoring at the 28:54 mark in the first half, when Erin Hon took a Lindsay Kennedy feed and scored, giving KU a 1-0 lead that would stand until Wykes' score in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson recorded five saves while facing 10 Kansas shots, four of them coming in the overtime period.
The match was the third consecutive overtime game for the Cowgirls who are know 1-1-2 in OT.
Oklahoma State remains unbeaten at home with a 5-0-1 mark and will host Missouri on Sunday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. at the OSU Soccer Complex.
