STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State soccer head coach Karen Hancock was pleased with the overall performance of her team in its intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday night.
"I thought the scrimmage went well. We saw some things that we liked and also some areas we need to work on," stated Hancock.
Mercy Morrical, Andi Lute, Kelli White and Julie Harris played well according to Hancock who also thought Chrystal Emerson, Emily Morgan and Melissa Wykes made solid contributions. Hancock was also pleased with the play of freshmen Emily Hamilton, Sarah Wicker and Teri Marcum.
Injuries hurt the Cowgirls last week with eight players missing practice team due to various ailments. Among the players held out of the scrimmage were Andrea Larsen, last year's leading scorer, Kendel Fenscke and Carrie Jones, each of whom saw plenty of action last season.
"I think it is difficult to observe all facets of the game during an intrasquad match because the girls are playing against their teammates and don't play as aggressive in order to avoid any more injuries before the season starts," stated Hancock.
Hancock believes the defense is further along at this point of the year compared to last season but believes there are still areas to work on.
"Some of the particular areas we will work on next week is creativity in the defensive back third as well as in the offensive front third better utilizing our scoring opportunities," stated the third year head coach.
The Cowgirls will have another full week of practice before hosting Southern Nazarene in an exhibition game on Friday, August 28 at 7 p.m. at the OSU Soccer Complex.
