Women's Soccer Closes Out Homestand

The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State looks to continue its winning ways with a pair of first ever meetings against Texas- El Paso and Centenary this weekend. The Cowgirls host UTEP (5-1) on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. and will finish up their four-game homestand against Centenary (4-2) on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m.
Last Week: Oklahoma State went 2-0 at home last week to remain undefeated at home. The Cowgirls beat arch-rival Oklahoma, 2-1 in overtime last Friday and then shutout Southwest Missouri State, 4-0, last Sunday.
Sophomore Andi Lute scored the game winning goal eight minutes into overtime, as the Cowgirls beat the Sooners for the third straight time. Norman native Mercy Morrical assisted on Lute's goal as the Cowgirls won their conference opener for the first time in school history. Forward Andrea Larsen recorded her second multi-goal game of the season in OSU's shut out over Southwest Missouri State. The Cowgirls outshot the Lady Bears, 27-1, in the contest and moved to 3-0 at home this season with the win.
Cowgirls Moving Up: For the first time in the three-year history of the program, Oklahoma State received votes in the Central Region Rankings conducted by the National Soccer Collegiate Athletic Association. Teams that the Cowgirls will/have faced in the poll included Texas A&M (1), Nebraska (3), Baylor (4), North Texas (5), Texas Tech (7) and UTEP (10).
About Texas-El Paso: Texas- El Paso is 6-1 on the season and ranked 10th in the Central Region. The Miners opened the year 6-0 before falling to Creighton, 2-1, last Sunday.
About Centenary: Centenary is 4-2 to start the year after falling to TCU, 3-2, last Sunday. The Ladies are led in scoring by junior Mary Cholley who has scored two goals with two assists in six games. Coming into the season, Centenary was ninth winningest program of the 1990's with a record of 80-29-3.
Wykes On A Roll: Senior midfielder Melissa Wykes has been on an offensive roll, having scored a goal in the each of the last four games. Wykes is 11th in the Big 12 in scoring with nine points and can set a new school record for consecutive games with a goal if she nets a goal against UTEP.
Cowgirl Notes: Andrea Larsen is tied for fifth in the league in scoring with 11 points ... with a win on Thursday, the Cowgirls will record their best start ever ... OSU has won 12 of their last 16 games ... Andi Lute has scored three goals in her last three games ... Melissa Caldwell, Adelene Ho, Katy Johnson and Michelle Peters all saw their first action of the year against Southwest Missouri State ... the last time the Cowgirls lost at home was against Nebraska on Oct. 24, 1997 ... Mercy Morrical has recorded an assist in her last two games ... Goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson now has posted 16 shutouts during her collegiate career.
