Track Competes at 1998 Cardinal Invitational

STANFORD, Calif. - The Cowboy distance trio of sophomores Chuck Sloan, Ben Phillips and junior Brian Young traveled to the University of Stanford in Stanford, Calif. over the weekend to take part in the Cardinal Invitational.
The three all took part in the 1,500m run. Sloan's performance met provisional national qualifying standards.
Sloan's third place, 3:44.15 performance in the event provisionally qualified him for the national meet in Buffalo, N.Y. on June 3-6.
Sloan has already qualified for the national meet in the 3,000m steeplechase event with his 8:42.04 performance at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Penn. on April 24.
Sloan's performance at the Penn Relays is currently the second best Big 12 mark of 1998.
As a freshman in 1997, Sloan finished 10th in the steeplechase event at the national meet in Bloomington, Ind. with a time of 9:02.13.
Young finished the race in 21 place with a time of 3:51.74 and Phillips finished in 23 with a time of 3:53.92.
