Sooners Edge Past Cowboys, 4-3

TULSA, Okla. - Left fielder Sean Murphy's two-out RBI single in the ninth lifted Oklahoma to a 4-3 victory over Oklahoma State Friday night in front of 11,136 fans at Drillers Stadium.
Oklahoma improved to 24-23 on the year and 8-14 in Big 12 play while Oklahoma State fell to 32-13 overall and 11-8 in conference action.
The Sooners captured the first game of the Bedlam Series for the fifth straight year and have now won five of the last six meetings between the schools.
Oklahoma State pitcher Matt Smith hurled his third complete game of the season and tied his career high of 14 strikeouts. He gave up three earned runs on six hits and dropped to 9-2 on the season, his first loss in seven starts.
Bajenaru opened the scoring for the Sooners with a two-run homer, his ninth of the season, in the second inning to give OU a 2-0 lead. First baseman Jay McCullough connected on his sixth homer in the fifth, a two-run shot, as the Cowboys rallied to tie the game at 2-2.
Lamont Matthews solo bomb in the sixth put OSU ahead 3-2 but the lead did not last long as OU rallied for a run in the seventh courtesy of a RBI double by Bajenaru to tie the game 3-3.
Smith retired the first two batters in the ninth before third baseman Tommy Whiteman reached on an error by shortstop Billy Gasparino, his 25th miscue of the year. Whiteman stole second base and Bajenaru walked to set up Murphy's game-winning hit
The Cowboys and Sooners will meet in the second game of the series tomorrow at 3 p.m. at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Jared Hoerman is scheduled to start on the mound for Oklahoma while Jeremy Krismer is slated to go for Oklahoma State.
