Oklahoma State Upsets Texas-El Paso, 3-1

STILLWATER, Okla. - The Oklahoma State women's soccer team (6-1) upset regionally ranked Texas-El Paso, 3-1, Thursday night at the OSU Soccer Complex, marking the team's best start in school history.
Midfielder Melissa Wykes continued her consecutive scoring streak by scoring her fifth goal in as many games, leading the Cowgirls to their third straight win.
Head coach Karen Hancock described the victory as possibly the biggest in the three-year history of the program.
"It was a big win, we have never beaten a regionally ranked opponent until tonight and hopefully this will get us some more votes in the region. It was a big confidence builder for our girls and I hope we can carry it into conference play."
Texas-El Paso (6-2), which was ranked 10th in the Central Region, opened the scoring in the game when midfielder Laura Glasspoole got behind OSU goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson and scored off an assist from Kim Rogers at the 24:41 mark.
The Cowgirls responded with less than two minutes remaining in the first half when forward Missy Moss took a feed from Andrea Larsen and beat the Miner keeper, scoring into the far post to tie the game at 1-1.
Both teams battled back and forth in the second half before UTEP was called with a handball infraction inside the five-yard box, resulting in an OSU penalty kick.
Wykes took advantage and scored at the 64:40 mark, giving the Cowgirls a 2-1 advantage that they never relinquished.
Larsen scored her fifth goal of the year off a cross by Andi Lute at the 84:19 mark adding an insurance goal as the Cowgirls won for the 13th time in their last 17 games.
Oklahoma State will host Centenary College in the final game of a four-game home stand Sunday at 1 p.m. at the OSU Soccer Complex.
