STILLWATER, Okla. -- Jay McCullough's seven RBI day powered Oklahoma State to a 13-1 win over Texas Sunday afternoon in front of 2,876 fans at Reynolds Stadium.
With the win the Cowboys swept the three game series and moved to 37-13 overall and 16-8 in Big 12 play. The loss was the fifth straight for the Longhorns who fell to 34-22 overall and 17-13 in conference action.
Oklahoma State opened the scoring in the first inning courtesy of a sacrifice fly by Jay McCullough. After Texas first baseman Jeff Ontiveros' RBI single tied the game in the second, OSU responded with four runs in the third to put the game away.
With the bases loaded in the third, McCullough knocked a grand-slam homer to left field to give OSU a 5-1 advantage. The senior first baseman would later add a two RBI double in the fifth to finish with a career high seven RBI day.
OSU added four more runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to put the game away. The contest was called in the seventh because of the Big 12's Sunday twelve -run rule.
Junior right hander Jeremy Krismer went the distance for the Pokes allowing one run on four hits while striking out five to remain perfect on the year at 5-0.
Texas lefty D.J. Jones fell to 8-6 with the loss as he threw for three innings and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits and walked three.
Texas ended the regular season with its best record since 1996 when the Longhorns finished 36-20 and were the Southwest Conference regular season champs. UT will have the week off before preparing for the Big 12 Tournament which begins on May 19 in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma State will prepare for a special non-conference match up against Oklahoma Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. Proceeds from the game will go towards relief efforts for those affected by the tornadoes last Monday.
