OSU vs. Mississippi State Notes
June 21, 1999 | Cowboy Football
* OSU's 561 yards total offense mark OSU's best offensive output since the 1988 Cowboys, led by Barry Sanders, gained 610 yards against Texas Tech. Tonight's yardage ranks 11th in school history (regular-season games only). The Cowboys' 360 yards rushing offense mark the team's best statistical ground attack since the 1996 Baylor game.
* Both junior TB Nathan Simmons and sophomore TB Jamaal Fobbs rushed for over 100 yards, marking the first time two Cowboys had gained 100 yards on the ground since David Thompson and Andre Richardson topped the century mark in the 1996 Iowa State game.
* Sophomore QB Tony Lindsay scored his third and fourth rushing TDs this season and the 12th and 13th scores over the ground in his career. He recorded the third multi-touchdown game (rushes only) of his career.
* Lindsay's first-quarter touchdown marked the first time this season that OSU has scored on its opening drive.
* Lindsay and junior WR Terrance Richardson connected on a 64-yard pass play in the first quarter, the longest pass play of each of their careers.
* Mississippi State became the first team to block an OSU punt and return it for a touchdown since Nebraska on Oct. 7, 1993.
* Junior DB Adam Edwards' two interceptions were the first of his career.
* Tonight's game marks the first time this season that OSU has held a halftime lead.
* Fobbs scored on rushes of 55 and three yards, giving him nine touchdowns in his career (six on the ground) and three rushing scores this year. Tonight marks the first time in his career that he has rushed for touchdowns twice in a game.
* Fobbs, who gained 104 yards for the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career, crossed the 1,000-yard rushing barrier for his career tonight. He now has 1,056 yards rushing in his career.
* Simmons gained a career-high 148 yards rushing for the second 100-yard rushing game of his career. He also crossed the career 1,000-yard mark and now has 1,005 in his career.
* Simmons' fourth-quarter touchdown is his second this season and the seventh of his career.
* Senior FB Brian Aikins' third-quarter touchdown run was his second this season and the ninth of his career.
* OSU has won the time-of-possession battle in 14 of the past 15 games and is 11-3 in those 14 games.
* Junior LB Billy Stone picked off a fourth-quarter pass for the second interception of his career. The first came in OSU's 12-0 victory at Oklahoma in 1995.
* OSU has won three straight home openers and six of the last seven.
* Honored at halftime was Kenyana Tolbert, a 1998 OSU signee who suffered a tragic, paralyzing injury in a 1997 high school game. A native of North Little Rock, Ark., Tolbert remains confined to a wheelchair. He was accompanied onto Lewis Field by his brothers Tony and Shawn.
