No. 5 Men's Golf Heads to ASU Invitational

April 15, 1999
STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State competes in its final tournament before the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship when the fifth-ranked Cowboys tee off in the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
OSU should be able to use the event as a league championship barometer since the tournaments 17-team field includes three other Big 12 teams Kansas, Oklahoma and seventh-ranked Texas. In addition to the Cowboys and Texas, the field also boasts a third top-10 team, eighth-ranked host Arizona State.
OSUs lineup will be bolstered this weekend by the return of sophomore Peter Davidson, who has missed the entire spring to this point with a broken finger. Davidson will join fifth-ranked Charles Howell, 11th-ranked Edward Loar, No. 61 Anders Hultman and No. 68 Landry Mahan on the Cowboys five-man team. Nick Seymour, who has filled in while Davidson has been out, will compete as an individual.
OSU hopes to improve on a measure of recent success at the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational; in their past four entries in the tournament, the Cowboys have finished third three times and second once.
The 1999 Big 12 Championship will be held April 26-27 at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. OSU is the only team to have won the event in its first two years.
