HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Oklahoma State carded the best score of Monday's second round to move to within one stroke of the lead at the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
Battling rain and wind throughout the day, the Cowboys were in fourth place after Monday morning's first round before recording a 295 in the second round to move up two spots and trail leader Texas by one stroke. In the extremely difficult conditions, the Cowboys' plus-15 second round was the best team score of the day by four strokes, and the third-best round Monday was a 306.
Four Cowboys are among the individual top 10, led by freshman Charles Howell, who is in third place at plus-10, three strokes off the lead. Senior Bo Van Pelt, whose second-round 71 was the day's best 18-hole score, and sophomore Edward Loar are tied for seventh place at 12-over, and freshman Boyd Summerhays is tied for 10th with a plus-13 score of 153. Sophomore Landry Mahan is 56th with a 172.
OSU has won 37 of its last 40 conference tournaments and has not failed to win the league tourney since 1992. The 1998 championship concludes with a single round on Tuesday.
