STILLWATER, Okla. - Tulsa's J.C. DeLeon and Phoenix native Ben Flam signed national letters of intent with the Oklahoma State men's golf program today.
"I'm excited because these are both excellent students as well as outstanding players," said OSU coach Mike Holder. "They will be seniors when we host the NCAA Championship in 2003, so they will be cornerstones of that team, which I think is very significant. Hopefully, we'll be able to put other championship-caliber players with them."
DeLeon, a senior at Jenks High School, is the second-ranked junior golfer in the country and a first-team high school All-American. He has three AJGA tournament victories to his credit and set a tournament record at the Taylor Made Pine Isle Junior Classic in Mobile, Ala.; that tournament's pedigree of former champions includes current OSU star Charles Howell.
Flam will come to OSU from Cortez High School in Phoenix. Ranked 24th among junior golfers according to Golfweek, Flam won his regional championship with an 8-under-par performance. He was a semifinalist at the Western Junior and won the Arizona State Big I qualifying tournament as well as the Arizona State Boys Championship.
OSU, listed third in the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings, has completed its competition for the fall. The Cowboys return to action Feb. 17-19 at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
