Men's Golf Places Second at Burns Intercollegiate

KANEOHE, Hawaii - Fourth-ranked UNLV carded easily the best round of the day to overtake fifth-ranked Oklahoma State and win the John Burns Intercollegiate mens golf tournament today.
The Cowboys led after the first and second rounds, but the Rebels, the defending national champions, won with a final-round 274, one of only two team scores under 280 Friday. UNLV finished at 32-under-par 832 overall with OSU five strokes behind.
Second-ranked sophomore Charles Howell led the Cowboys individually, recording a second-place finish with an 11-under score of 205. UNLVs Michael Kirk, who shot three sub-70 rounds, won at 203. OSUs fifth-ranked junior, Edward Loar, finished fourth at 206; his younger brother, SMU freshman Nicholas Loar, tied Howell for second.
Junior Cowboy Landry Mahan, who was tied with Howell for the individual lead after the first round, finished tied for 11th at 210. Freshmen Anders Hultman (52nd, 219) and Nick Seymour (91st, 228) rounded out the OSU lineup.
OSU returns to action March 12-14 when it competes in the Golf Digest tournament in Las Vegas.
