Men's Golf Opens Season Monday

STILLWATER, Okla. - The OSU men's golf team opens its 1998-99 season Monday and Tuesday, when the Cowboys compete in the Ping/Golfweek NCAA Preview at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Minneapolis, Minn.
The Cowboys are ranked fifth in the preseason MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings; they will compete in a field comprised of 15 of the nation's top 24 teams according to Golfweek.
Sophomore Charles Howell is ranked seventh in the preseason MasterCard Rankings, and junior teammate Edward Loar is ninth. They will be joined in the Cowboy lineup by junior Landry Mahan, a quarterfinalist at the U.S. Amateur last month; sophomore Peter Davidson; and freshman Anders Hultman.
Hazeltine National Golf Club has hosted the 1966 U.S. Women's Open Championship, the 1970 and 1991 U.S. Men's Open Championships, the 1983 U.S. Senior Open, the 1980 PGA Grand Slam of Golf and the 1994 U.S. Mid-Amateur, and it will be the site for this season's NCAA Championship as well as the 2001 PGA Championship.
