Men's Golf Leads at the Maxwell

ARDMORE, Okla. - Six OSU golfers, including one playing as an individual, are among the top 20 at the Maxwell by Pontiac, putting the Cowboys in first place after Saturday's first two rounds of the tournament.
Senior Trent Brown, competing as an individual, and sophomore Landry Mahan are tied for eighth individually at 4-over-par, and teammates Edward Loar, Boyd Summerhays and Bo Van Pelt are tied for 10th, one stroke behind Brown and Mahan. Freshman Charles Howell is 16th at 6-over.
The Cowboys, tied with Texas for first place after opening the day with an even-par round, battled tough afternoon conditions to shoot 14-over and take a six-shot lead over the Longhorns. In each of the previous Maxwells, the team leading after one round went on to win the title.
"The afternoon round was tough," said OSU coach Mike Holder. "The wind was gusting, which firmed up the greens and increased their speed. It was hard to hit the fairways, and if you didn't, it was difficult to hold the greens out of the rough. The rounds were completely different from morning to afternoon."
The Cowboys have three players competing as individuals; in addition to Brown, freshman Peter Davidson (59th at 15-over) and T.J. Nance (76th at plus-20) are in the tournament field.
The tournament concludes with 18 holes Sunday.
