STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State hopes to repeat its 1996 success when the Cowboy golf team competes in the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.
Led by then-freshman Edward Loar's medal-winning performance, the Cowboys won the event two years ago. OSU was third in the tournament last season, and Loar finished third individually.
The 12-team field at the Jerry Pate includes eight of the nation's top 10 teams, including top-ranked OSU, according to the latest MasterCard Collegiate Golf Rankings. Five top-10-ranked individuals are in the field, including OSU's seventh-ranked Loar and fourth-ranked Charles Howell.
The Cowboys have opened their 1998-99 season in strong fashion, winning the Ping-Golfweek Preview to start the year and finishing third at last week's Red River Classic.
