FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Forward Andrea Larsen provided all the scoring Oklahoma State would need by scoring twice as the Cowgirls (1-0) opened their 1998 season with a 2-0 win over Drury College (0-2) on Friday afternoon in Fayetteville, Ark.
The Cowgirls moved to 2-1 in season openers, which pleased head coach Karen Hancock.
"You can't ask for a better start by opening the year with a win," said Hancock. "I thought we came out and played some good soccer in the first half. At the same time, I think we need to do a better job of capitalizing on our scoring opportunities."
Larsen, a sophomore from Portland, Ore., scored two goals in an eight-minute span during the first half and notched the second multiple-goal game of her career.
Senior goalkeeper Chrystal Emerson made five saves in recording the ninth shutout of her career.
Larsen scored her first goal at the 14:54 mark by taking a pass from Melissa Wykes and kicking the ball past the Drury goalkeeper in the far post from 15 yards out. Larsen added her second goal at the 22:45 mark, firing a shot from 25 yards over the keeper's head.
With the victory, the Cowgirls extended their regular-season win streak to four games over the past two seasons and have won eight out of their last 11 contests.
Oklahoma State will conclude its two-game road swing on Sunday when the Cowgirls tackle the University of Arkansas at 1 p.m.
