Hanna Smedstad Wins 3,000m run at OU Classic

STILLWATER, Okla. - Wrapping up another individual title, her third in as many meets the Cowgirls Hanna Smedstad won the 3,000m run at the OU Classic, in Norman, Okla.
Smedstad's time of 9:35.09 just edged out Baylor's Sherri Smith who turned in a time of 9:35.16. Smedstad's time of 9:35.09 also qualifies her provisionally for the NCAA indoor nationals. Freshman Alexandra Lindquist finished fourth in 3,000m with a time of 10:00.70
Two other Cowgirls also qualified provisionally for nationals. Sherita Jackson at two-time All-American in the 200m qualified in 24.44 while winning her first individual title of the year in the 200m. Jackson also won heat two of the 55m dash and finished fifth overall in a time of 7.15.
Pole vaulter Megan Robbins provisionally qualified for nationals as well with a jump of 11-5.75 good enough for second place. In doing so she once again smashed her previous Cowgirl record.
The throwing events were highlighted by Nancy Guillen's first place finish and new school record in the weight throw. Her throw of 56-01.25 was a good foot farther than her nearest competitor. Andrea Holloway finished third in the shot put with a throw of 45-07.25.
With a time of 1:25.05 senior Andrene Thompson won the 600y dash.
Melinda Jackson's jump of 40-8.75 broke her own school record and gave her second place in the triple jump. The Cowgirls 4X400m relay team finished second in a time of 3:49.17.
