STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State will open its 1998 football season on national television against the University of Kansas in Lawrence. The game, originally scheduled for November 14, will now be played September 5 and be featured on ABC Television.
Opening with Kansas on September 5 will enable OSU to move its game with Southwestern Louisiana to November 14 in Stillwater. The OSU-USL game was originally scheduled for September 26.
OSU will now be open on September 26, prior to its October 3 game against Nebraska in Kansas City.
The scheduling moves are beneficial to the Cowboys in a number of ways.
Opening on September 5 instead of September 12 will give OSU a lengthier period of two-a-day workouts. The opener at KU will give the Cowboys national television exposure for the third straight game and give the Pokes a needed open date in late September.
OSU's final game of the 1997 regular season at Baylor was an ABC game and the Alamo Bowl game against Purdue was on ESPN.
