STILLWATER, Okla. - The OSU football team completed its first week of practice with a workout Saturday afternoon.
The Cowboys held their annual Media Day this morning and held a two-and-a-half-hour practice, culminating with a tough goal-line situational scrimmage, this afternoon.
Head coach Bob Simmons was pleased with the effort put forth by his team's 105 players.
"Our first full week, I think things have gone well," said Simmons. "The guys look like they're a veteran team. They've come back with a great attitude. You've got a lot of players that know what you want on both sides of the ball, and both squads practiced like that. We had some heat, and they had to pick it up a bit, but you expect that. But our team has a real good attitude about what's going on.
"Offensively, we wanted to scrimmage, but we wanted to scrimmage real close. We watned to see a lot of physical play - see the offensive line come off and be aggressive and also see the defense be aggressive with the offense running plays. The open area was somewhat controlled since this was our first week, but we wanted to see some work today.
"When you go goal-line on the three-yard line, its a test-builder for your offense to get the ball in. It's also a test-builder for your defense to really be dominant down there. I thought on both sides of the ball we did some good things."
Classes begin at OSU on Monday. The Cowboys will begin afternoon workouts on Tuesday -- practices this week will be closed to the public -- and will hold a scrimmage the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 22. The start time has not been set.
