STILLWATER, Okla. - Sophomore Cowboy distance runner Chuck Sloan will be leaving for Buffalo, N.Y. on Monday to take part in his second straight NCAA Championship 3,000m steeplechase event.
Sloan will be representing the Oklahoma State men's track and field team at State University of New York (SUNY) for the 77th annual Men's Outdoor NCAA Track & Field Championship meet June 3-6.
He will be aiming to knock 3.85 seconds off of his personal best performance of 8:42.04 set at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on April 24.
This feat will break a 31 year old Cowboy steeplechase school record of 8:38.20 set by distance great Chris McCubbins at the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Canada in 1967.
Sloan is returning to the national meet after a 10th place 9:02.13 performance as a freshman in 1997 at Bloomington, Ind.
His overall goal for the meet is to finish in the top five and bring home an All-America honor.
"I feel that I can finish in the top five or better," said Sloan. "I definitely should be an All-American".
