Distance Runner Earns All-American Status

BUFFALO, N.Y. - Oklahoma State sophomore distance runner Chuck Sloan finished sixth in the 3,000m steeplechase at the 1998 Men's Track & Field NCAA Championships. His finish earned him his first track and field All-America honor. The finals were held on the State University of New York at Buffalo (SUNY) campus on Friday.
Sloan finished the race with his second best performance of 8:43.33. Matt Kerr of Arkansas was the overall winner with a time of 8:36.95.
Sloan finished the 1998 regular season second on the Oklahoma State All-Time Steeplechase list behind All-America school record holder Chris McCubbins.
Sloan will spend more time on the track when he participates in the 1998 USA Track and Field Championships in New Orleans, La.
The steeplechase semifinals are scheduled for Friday June 19 while the finals will be set for Sunday June 21.
