STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's and women's cross country teams will compete in the NCAA District V Championship meet tomorrow in Wichita, Kan.
The Cowboys are currently the number nine men's cross country team in the U.S. Two weeks ago, they placed second in the Big 12 Championships. Colorado took first place in the Big 12.
The Cowgirls, who placed sixth in the Big 12 two weeks ago, are not currently ranked. Earlier this season, however, the women did make the national polls for the first time in nine years.
Both the Cowboys and the Cowgirls must be one of the top two teams in their races in order to be eligible for the Nov. 23 NCAA Championships in Lawrence, Kan.
Cowboy Head Coach Dick Weis said the team has been focusing on national competition since the first meet.
"Our ultimate goal is to go to nationals," Weis said. "We want to do well so that we can go to nationals."
Cowgirl Head Coach Catrina Acosta said her team made a goal to make it to the NCAA Championships at the beginning of the season.
"We were disappointed with the outcome of last year," Acosta said. "This year, we want to make it to nationals. It is all that counts."
