STILLWATER, Okla. - All that remains for the Oklahoma State women's track and field team this indoor season is the NCAA Championships which will take place this weekend in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Cowgirls will send four individuals and the distance medley relay team to Indy with the goal of coming home with All-Americans honors.
Individually qualifying for the Cowgirls is Andrene Thompson who qualified for nationals in the 800m last weekend with a time of 2:07.71 and Hanna Smedstad who will look to make a strong run at the 3,000m title.
Joining the two Cowgirl veterans will be freshman Andrea Holloway in the shot put and Alexandra Lindquist in the mile run. Lindquist won the Big 12 Championships in the mile at this year meet while Holloway finished third in the shot put.
"You never know how kids are going to respond in pressure situations," said Head Coach Catrina Acosta. " Luckily we have two veterans who can provide some leadership and help our freshman deal with the situation. Freshman are sometimes volatile and you never know how they are going to react."
An event the Cowgirls will look to surprise some people around the country in this weekend is the distance medley relay. Running for the Cowgirls will be Lindquist, Krystal Beamon, Thompson and Smedstad. The group broke the school record earlier this season with a time of 11:25.68 and with only the best running at nationals anything can happen.
"We hope all of the girls are able to bring home All-American honors," said Acosta. "But we are really shooting for a high finish in the DMR (distance medley relay), our girls have really been working hard and they are ready for this challenge."
