Cowboys Win Slugfest with BYU, 20-15

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State scored eight runs in the first inning and outslugged a high powered BYU team en route to a 20-15 win Friday night at Reynolds Stadium.
Lamont Matthews paced the OSU offensive attack with a pair of homers, his 18th and 19th of the season, and four runs scored. Kevin Lucas went 4-for-6 with an RBI and two runs scored to help lead the Cowboy attack which pounded out 18 hits against four Cougar pitchers.
Chris Becerra and Josh Holliday also hit homers for the Pokes who have hit 96 dingers in 42 games this season.
Sophomore Stu Hunt picked up the win for the Cowboys in relief to even his ledger at 1-1. The Edmond, Okla. product pitched three innings in relief and gave up four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts.
BYU starter Paul Jacinto was charged with the loss and dropped to 1-1 on the year. Jacinto did not record an out in the first and gave up seven runs on five hits with two bases on balls before being pulled.
Slugger Ryan Pond led the Cougars with a 2-for-5 night at the plate which included his 18th homer, a triple, four RBIs and three runs scored.
The Cougars will be back in action tomorrow at noon against Western Illinois before facing the Cowboys again at 4 p.m. OSU will then face Western Illinois in the nightcap of the tripleheader at 7 p.m..
