MINNEAPOLIS - Dave Anderton picked up a fall over Brent Boeshans in the next to last match of the dual to propel top-ranked Oklahoma State to a come-from-behind 21-17 victory over second-ranked Minnesota in collegiate wrestling on Sunday evening at the Williams Center in Minneapolis.
Anderton's fall came after the Pokes had fallen behind 17-11 with two matches to go. His fall tied the score at 17 all and Teague Moore finished out the win for the Pokes with a 16-6 win over LeRoy Vega.
The win extened the Cowboys winning streak to 47 in a row and 37 in a row on the road.
Two-time NCAA champion Eric Guerrero started the match off with a 16-1 technical fall over Pat Connors. The Cowboy senior had three near falls in the match and improved to 2-0 on the season, both wins coming by technical fall.
Jamill Kelly then dropped a 15-9 match to freshman Chad Erickson at 141. Reggie Wright looked impressive again for the Cowboys with a 7-4 win over Troy Marr at 149-pounds.
Third-ranked Jimmy Arias dropped a tough 3-1 decision to top-ranked 157-pounder Chad Kraft. The match went to overtime just like their last meeting in the national quarterfinals last season.
The Gophers' Josh Holiday then defeated ex-high school teammate Ty Wilcox, 14-6, in the the 165-pound match. Mark Smith picked up his second consecutive win of the season without the benefit of a takedown. He beat Delaney Berger 2-1 in the 174-pound match.
Top-ranked Brandon Eggum fought off the Cowboys' Mark Mu-oz, 5-1 in the 184-pound match and the Gophers' Tim Hartung, the top-ranked 197-pounder in the country, destroyed Pat Popolizio, 20-5. The win was a technical fall but only counted four points in the team scoring because there was no near fall.
The Cowboys return to action on Sunday Dec. 6 when they travel to Norman for a dual with Oklahoma.
