Cowboys Stop Cyclones, Advance to Finals

IOWA CITY, Iowa - Oklahoma State's top-ranked wrestling team moved to the finals of the Cliff Keen/NWCA National Duals with a 23-15 win over Iowa State Saturday evening in front of 7,141 fans at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.
The win was the 58th straight for the Cowboys and it was the Cowboys 47th straight away from Gallagher-Iba Arena. The win was also the 99th for head coach John Smith.
Teague Moore and Eric Guerrero both continued their winning streaks with wins. Moore had a major decision 14-3 win over Jesse West to extend his winning streak to 24 dating back to last season. Guerrero won a tough 6-3 decision over Cody Sanderson. He has now won 18 straight matches.
Charles Walker, wrestling at 141 won his match over Benjie Winegarden, 12-5. Reggie Wright continued his undefeated season with a 10-2 win over Cole Sanderson. Jimmy Arias beat longtime rival David Maldanado, 3-1 in overtime.
Shawn Smith was pinned by Joe Heskett. Smith had led the entire match and fell with only 47 seconds left in the match. Mark Smith won his match by forfeit.
Mark Mu-oz Josh Cruzan and Dave Anderton then lost consecutive matches as Iowa State narrowed the gap.
