STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's men's track team begins its 1999 outdoor season with the OSU Duals on Friday, March 19, and Saturday, March 20.
This year, the duals have been divided into two days. The hammer throw and javelin will be Friday starting at 3:30 p.m. with the rest of the events Saturday. The hammer will be on the OSU Intramural fields, and the javelin will be at the Kaye Barrett Droke Track and Field Complex.
"It's too hard to get all of the field events in on one day, especially with more and more people competing," OSU coach Dick Weis said. "It's easier to get the javelin out of the way because it slows everything down by taking up the entire length of the field."
Saturday's field events start at 11 a.m. with the track events beginning at 12:30 p.m. All of Saturday's events will be at the Kaye Barrett Droke Track Complex.
OSU's returning All-American Chuck Sloan will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at 12:45 p.m.
Other top Cowboy runners are scheduled to compete in the 800m at 2:15 p.m., the 1,500m at 1 p.m. and the 3,000m at 3:35 p.m. Andrew Hennessy will run in the 1,500m and 800m. Ren Carlsen and Gitogo Churu will join Hennessy in the 1,500m, and Bruce Wright will run in the 3,000m. All starting times are approximate.
Other schools participating in the OSU Duals are the University of Tulsa, Oral Roberts University, the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Wichita State University, the University of Central Oklahoma, Lindenwood University and Dodge City Community College.
The Cowboys continue their outdoor season with a meet at the Southwest Missouri State Big Bear Invite on March 27.
