Cowboys Men's Golf Finishes Third at Burns Intercollegiate

KANEOHE, Hawaii - Oklahoma State's sixth-ranked golf team finished third at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate here Friday afternoon, 10 strokes behind team champion UNLV. Arizona outdistanced the Cowboys by one stroke to finish second.
Freshman Charles Howell carded a three-round 12-under 204 to finish third in the individual race. New Mexico's Doug LaBelle won the individual title with a three-round 202, leading after each round. OSU senior Bo Van Pelt, who was tied for fourth after two rounds, fell into a tie for 15th after shooting an even-par 72 in the final round.
New Mexico finished fourth in the tournament, three strokes behind the Cowboys, while Colorado State rounded out the top five with a 16-under 848. Nine teams in the tournament finished under par.
Rounding out the OSU lineup were top-ranked Edward Loar (tied for 20th with a 213), Peter Davidson (tied for 27th with a 215) and Boyd Summerhays (T44th, 218).
Oklahoma State will return to action on Mar. 13-15 when the Cowboys travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Golf Digest Intercollegiate.
