Cowboys Defeat Oral Roberts, 12-6

TULSA, Okla. - Oklahoma State won its seventh game in a row with a decisive 12-6 win over Oral Roberts Wednesday night at Drillers Stadium. Lamont Matthews extended his hitting streak to seventeen games and nearly hit for the cycle with a homer, double and triple in four at bats. The junior outfielder also collected five RBIs for the fifth time this season and now has 60 on the year.
The Cowboys opened the scoring with two runs in the first off a bases loaded walk to and a sacrifice fly by Chris Becerra. OSU added another run in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.
ORU came back in the bottom of the second when catcher Brian Bowman hit a two-run homer to left field which cut the Cowboy lead to 3-2.
After OSU scored a run in the third inning to push the lead to 4-2, the Pokes scored four runs in the fifth and eighth innings to put the game away. Lamont Matthews two-RBI triple and Chris Becerra's two-run homer accounted for the Cowboys runs in the fifth while Billy Gasparino and Matthews both hit two-run homers in the eighth to give the Cowboys a 12-4 advantage.
Andrew Mosher's two-run homer off of reliever Stu Hunt in the eighth cut the Cowboy lead to 12-6 but the Golden Eagles were shutdown by reliever Rusty Rushing who came in and struck out four in an inning an two-thirds of work.
Frank Bludau (3-0) picked his third win of the season relieving starter Dale Pearson in the third inning. Bludau gave up two runs on two hits with three walks and two strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings of work. Golden Eagle starter Andrew Mosher (3-2) was charged with the loss and fell to 3-2 on the year.
The win improved Oklahoma State's ledger to 24-8 on the season while Oral Roberts fell to 23-7 with the loss.
The Cowboys will be back in action this Friday at 7 p.m. to start a weekend series against Nebraska in Lincoln.
