STILLWATER, Okla. -- Seventh-ranked Oklahoma State looks to rebound from a disappointing conference tournament when the OSU men's golf team competes in The Maxwell by Pontiac in Ardmore, Okla., on Saturday and Sunday.
OSU, one of 11 nationally ranked squads in the 14-team field, has won the event three straight years and has produced its individual medalist in two of the past three seasons. Current junior Edward Loar was OSU's most recent Maxwell titleist, winning the event in 1997.
The annual tuneup for the NCAA regional action -- OSU competes in the Central Regional on May 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio -- is played on Dornick Hills Country Club, which has provided a stern test to the collegiate teams meeting on its course for the past seven seasons. The seven individual champions of The Maxwell have combined to shoot just 14-under-par.
The Cowboys' team lineup will remain the same as at the Big 12 Championship -- Loar will be joined by Charles Howell, Anders Hultman, Landry Mahan and Nick Seymour -- but Peter Davidson and Bret Guetz will also see action, competing as individuals.
If the Cowboys finish as one of the top 10 teams at next week's Central Regional, they qualify for the NCAA Championships, which will be played at Hazeltine Country Club in Chasica, Minn., on June 2-5.
