Cowboy Baseball Earns Two Honorees

WICHITA, Kan. - The Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-American baseball team was announced Friday with two Oklahoma State Cowboys among the three teams.
Senior shortstop Billy Gasparino was named to the second team and Lamont Matthews was on the third team on the team selected by the staff of Collegiate Baseball. Gasparino, who hit .383 and tied for the OSU team lead with 23 home runs this season, transferred to OSU from Georgia two years ago and has become a major force in the middle of the Cowboys batting order. Matthews, a transfer from Kishwaukee Community College this season, tied Gasparino with 22 home runs and led the Cowboys with 86 RBI and played a solid defensive right field.
The Big 12 Conference was represented on the first team by Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year Jason Jennings of Baylor. Jennings hit .385 with 15 home runs and was 12-1 on the mound with a sterling 2.15 earned run average. Nebraska's Ken Harvey joined Jennings on the first team, leading the nation with his .484 average.
Oral Roberts had outfielder Jeff Stallings selected to the first team. The Edmond North graduate hit .423 for the season. On the second team, Texas A&Ms Chris Russ joined Gasparino from the Big 12. The Aggie sophomore hurler went 11-2 with a 2.19 ERA. Texas Tech senior catcher Josh Bard and A&Ms Daylon Holt joined Matthews on the third team along with ORU's Ryan Neill and Mike Hill.
