STILLWATER, Okla. - Designated hitter Jason Jennings hit a pair of homers, including a grandslam in the first inning, to lead Baylor to a 11-4 win over Oklahoma State Sunday afternoon at Reynolds Stadium.
Baylor scored seven runs in the first two innings and added another in the fourth to give them an 8-0 early advantage.
The Cowboys would get in the scoring column in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a two-run homer by shortstop Billy Gasparino, his 11th of the season. Two batters later, leftfielder Jay McCullough followed with a solo shot to center, his fourth of the season, to cut the lead to 8-3.
That would be all the runs the Pokes would get off of Baylor starter Chad Hawkins who pitched seven innings and gave up three runs on six hits while striking out seven in earning his third win of the year.
OSU starter Denny New was knocked out of the game after the first inning and dropped to 0-1 on the season. The Cowboy pitching staff as a whole gave up 13 walks while Baylor gave up just one free pass the entire game.
Jennings finished the day 3-for-5 at the plate with seven RBIs as the Bears took the series, 2-1, and moved to 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the Big 12.
OSU dropped to 11-6 overall and 1-5 in Big 12 play and will be back in action on Tuesday against Arkansas-Pine Bluff at 3 p.m. at Reynolds Stadium.
SCHEDULE NOTE: Wednesday's (March 10) contest against Arkansas-Pine Bluff has been canceled and only a single game will be played on Tuesday (March 9).
