COLUMBIA, Mo. - Oklahoma State (37-17, 15-12 Big 12) finished up the regular season with a win in a decisive Big 12 double header with Missouri, Sunday afternoon. Missouri won the first game 6-5, and Oklahoma State came back to win the second game 7-5.
With the two wins over Oklahoma State, Missouri moves into the fifth seed, while Oklahoma State will be the sixth seed in the Big 12 Conference. Oklahoma State will play the number one seeded Texas A&M Thursday, May 14, at 11 a.m.
In the first game of the double header, Missouri scored a run in bottom of the eighth and ninth innings to overcome a late 5-4 deficit. Missouri took an early two-run lead in the first inning with Ryan Fry hitting a two-run home run, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead. OSU would come back in the second inning with a two-run double by Kevin Lucas.
The Pokes would later take the lead 4-3 in the sixth inning with Lucas hitting a base hit into center field scoring two more Cowboys. A Griffin Moore RBI single in the bottom half of the inning tied the game at 4-4.
Oklahoma State took the lead in the top of the eight inning with a sacrifice fly by Steve Hill, but Missouri would answer in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Fry. Then in the bottom of the ninth, Nick Schweider hit a ground ball deep into the hole at shortstop with runners at the corners for the go-ahead run and the win 6-5.
In the second game, Oklahoma State's Jon Adkins made his first return to the mound since April 22, to claim his eighth win of the season.
The Pokes got off to a 4-0 lead in four innings before Missouri scored a run. The runs were highlighted by Josh Holliday and Billy Gasparino doubling and a pair of RBI singles by Jay McCullough.
OSU tallied two more runs in the sixth inning with a solo home run by JimBo McAuliff and and a RBI single by Holliday. Missouri would come back with three doubles in the bottom half of the sixth closing the gap to 6-5.
Oklahoma State added an insurance run in the eighth inning and reliever Stu Hunt shut the Tigers to only one hit in the final four innings he pitched. Hunt had six strikeouts in the save.
The doubleheader ended OSU's regular season and put the Cowboys in the No. 6 slot for the upcoming Big 12 baseball tournament. The Cowboys will play top-seeded Texas A&M in the tournament's opening game at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City.
