WACO, Texas - Oklahoma State (29-12, 8-7 Big 12) won its ninth game in a row Saturday night in against Baylor, 2-0.
In a game that was led by pitching, Oklahoma State's Matt Smith pitched OSU's second complete game of the season. In the shut out, he gave up four hits, and had a career high 10 strikeouts.
For Baylor, Kip Wells went eight innings and gave up two hits. He also had 10 strikeouts.
The only hits for the Cowboys were by Tony Lucca and Jay McCullough.
In the second inning, catcher Josh Holliday walked and was later driven in by Kevin Lucas. In the sixth inning, Billy Gasparino walked and advanced to second on an error by Wells throwing an arrant throw to first. Holliday would hit a sacrifice fly two batters later to score Gasparino.
This was the Cowboys' fourth shut out of the season, and the second complete game of the season by Cowboys pitchers.
The last time that Baylor was shut out was April 13, 1996.
Oklahoma State and Baylor will end the series Sunday, April 18, at 2 p.m.
