STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State freshman Matt Smith pitched his first career one hitter Friday night in a win over Nebraska 12-0, in seven innings. Also this is Smith's second career shut out.
The lone hit came in the top of the seventh to Ken Harvey.
For Smith only seven Cornhusker batters reached base out of the 25 batters faced. He has also pitched 26.0 scoreless innings, and has given up only three earned runs in 39.0 innings pitched.
Oklahoma State (33-13, 12-8 Big 12) scored early with JimBo McAuliff crushing his first career grand slam in the second inning. The home run was also his third of the year.
In the third inning, OSU capitalized on an error by Brian Schmidt scoring two unearned runs in the third.
In the fourth inning, Tony Lucca and Marc Fournier hit home runs that scored four runs in the inning.
The game ended in the seventh with Kevin Lucas hitting a base hit to left field that scored Tony Roossien and McAuliff.
Oklahoma State and Nebraska will face off tomorrow, April 25, at 6 p.m.
