Cowboys Crown Six Champions At Fort Hays State Open

FORT HAYS, Kan. - Oklahoma State wrestling traveled to the Fort Hays Open last weekend and crowned six champions.
Tyrone Lewis was named outstanding wrestler on his way to the title at 157 pounds. Lewis won four matches, including a 4-2 overtime decision over Corey Hill of Colby Community College.
At 125, Matt Holman defeated teammate Cody Stites in the finals.
Two more Cowboys squared off in the finals at 133, with John Thompson decisioning Ricky Palomino 9-8.
Jerrod Sanders dominated the 141-pound weight class, winning five matches and recording two falls in taking the title.
Freshman Will Gruenwald had his most impressive outing as a Cowboy freshman. He won the 197-pound weight class improving his record to 6-4, winning all four matches over the weekend.
Daniel Cormier also won an individual title. He claimed the 184 pound title, pinning Fort Hays State's Joel Thompson in 2:52. Cormier had three falls in four matches during the tournament.
The Cowboys will return to action on Thursday, Dec. 16, when they travel to Eugene, Ore., for a 7:30 p.m. dual with the Oregon Ducks.
