Cowboy Grapplers Compete In Cliff Keen Kickoff Classic

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State wrestling competed unattached on Saturday at the Cliff Keen Athletic Kickoff Classic and dominated the event, winning all ten weight classes.
The tourmament was made up of mostly Oklahoma State and University of Central Oklahoma wrestlers.
Upsets played a definite role in Saturday's action. OSU saw three of its current starters lose. All to teammates competing for a starting spot in the Cowboy lineup.
Jeff Ragan dropped a 6-5 decision to teammate Matt Brown in the semifinals at 125. OSU's Matt Holman then defeated Brown 6-2 in the finals.
Jerrod Sanders once again faced Jamill Kelly in a rematch of the Orange and Black ranking matches. This time Kelly turned-the-tables winning in double overtime.
Pat Popolizio, after starting OSU's first match against Missouri suffered a double-overtime setback to newcomer Daniel Cormier.
The remaining Cowboy starters cruised to tournament titles. Charles Walker decisioned John Thompson 3-0, while Reggie Wright majored decisioned UCO's Gabe Sullivan 22-9.
Shane Roller, wrestling at 157, won his match over Nathan Gomez 11-1. Ty Wilcox faced true freshman Tyrone Lewis at 165. Wilcox won by decision, 9-5.
OSU's Tony Gansen used a 6-2 decision of Quinton Bell to win the title at 174.
Mark Mu?oz won by fall at 184 pounds. He pinned UCO's T.J. Tallent in 1:46 and was named the tournaments outstanding wrestler.
Dave Anderton won the heavyweight division with a 5-0 win over Rey Martinez.
The OSU wrestling team will next take the mat on Saturday, Nov. 27 at the Oklahoma Open in Norman, Okla. The tournament is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with the finals beginning at 7 p.m.
