STILLWATER, Okla. - Tournaments in San Diego and Louisiana and home-and-home series against Arkansas and Oral Roberts, to go along with a competitive Big 12 slate, highlight Oklahoma State's 2000 baseball schedule.
The Cowboys, fresh off a seventh-place finish at the 1999 College World Series, will play at least seven teams that made the NCAA Tournament last season.
"This is a good, quality schedule that is built with some tough contests early on in order for us to prepare this ballclub to be ready for Big 12 play," said fourth-year head coach Tom Holliday.
OSU opens the year with 13 straight road contests including non-conference tilts against San Diego State, Grambling, Louisana Tech and four teams at the San Diego State Classic.
Oklahoma State will close out the road swing and open Big 12 play against Baylor in Waco on Feb. 25-27. The Cowboys beat the Bears, who finished second in the Big 12, in the three-game NCAA Super Regionals to advance to the CWS last year.
The Pokes will open their 19th season at Reynolds Stadium against Missouri Southern on Feb. 29. OSU will then host Nebraska for a three-game series March 3-5. The Cornhuskers won the Big 12 Tournament title last season and advanced into the NCAA Tournament.
The Cowboys will host Kansas in Big 12 action in March and will travel to Missouri and Texas.
OSU will play Arkansas in Stillwater March 21 and in Fayetteville March 28, renewing a series that was halted in 1999.
Oklahoma State will host Cal-State Northridge in a three-game series March 31- April 2 before taking on Oral Roberts at Drillers Stadium on April 4.
The Cowboys' next test at home will come against 1999 Big 12 champion Texas A&M, who also advanced to the CWS last season. The two teams will play Apr. 14-16.
Bedlam baseball will follow the A&M series as OSU and OU hook up for three games April 21-23. The April 21 game will be played at Drillers Stadium in Tulsa before the series shifts to the Southwestern Bell Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City for the April 22-23 contests.
OSU will then play 10 of its final 12 games in Stillwater, beginning with a seven-game homestand against Oral Roberts (April 26), Purdue (April 27-29) and Iowa State (May 5-7).
The Cowboys will host Seton Hall in a two-game series May 8-9 at the Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City before closing out the regular season at Reynolds Stadium against Texas Tech on May 12-14.
The top eight teams in the Big 12 will play in the Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City beginning May 17 and ending with the championship game to be televised live on Fox Sports Net on May 21.
