Two Cowgirl Harriers Named To Academic All-Big 12 Squad

STILLWATER, Okla. - Two members of the women's cross country team were recognized with Academic All-Big 12 honors today.

Junior Hanna Smedstad, a psychology major, received first-team honors. Smedstad is one of recognized 35 runners who has made the cross country academic team for the fourth time. She has a 3.8 cumulative GPA.

Junior Karla Dennis was one of ten runners who was recognized as having a 4.0 GPA. Dennis is a chemical engineering major.

In order for runners to qualify for first-team status, they must have maintained a 3.2 or better GPA. Second-team members are those with grade-point averages between 3.0 and 3.19. To be eligible, student-athletes must have competed in 60 percent of her team's scheduled meets. Freshmen and transfers are not eligible in their first year of academic residence.

The Cowgirls will compete in the 1999 Big 12 Championships this Saturday at 10:00 at College Station, Texas.
