OSU Coach Bob Simmons
On dominating the game in the first quarter and then hitting a brick wall
"I thought that we really started this game off executing our game plan. We
had a lot of excitement and guys making plays. Probably one of the turning
points was when they made a big third down play and then we came back and
fumbled the ball and changed the momentum. We started out fast and we did
hit a brick wall and they got their momentum going. It was the same thing
starting the second half. We lost to a pretty good football team."
On the impact of Kansas State's first touchdown play
"That didn't change the momentum. I thought when we came back out in the
first series (after the touchdown) and fumbled the ball off that first snap
and we went back to back in letting our defense back on the field. The play
before the half really concerns me. I think there were 47 seconds left and
for us to give up a touchdown at that point in time, I need to see what's
going on in terms of what we were playing."
On not scoring since the first few minutes of the second quarter
"What it boils down to is that they adjusted and we didn't make the plays
that were necessary to get the ball. When they adjusted, we went three and
out several times. When that happens, when you go three and out and put
your defense back on the field, and they had success moving the ball on our
defense, it certainly changes the momentum and offensively, we had to get
something going. We were very sporadic after we jumped out with 21 points."
On KSU quarterback Jonathon Beasley
"He had a great day. Number one, I thought he had too much time. Number
two, he made some great throws. For them to complete the routes that they
did and go from one side of the field to the other side, my only question is
where was the pressure? From a containment standpoint, that's a long time
to ask any defensive back to cover. He was sharp. He made some good
throws. Their receivers were good."
On Tony Lindsay's performance
"Tony was fine. He threw an interception late, but for the most part, I
think he did what we asked him to do. I wish we would have played better,
but when you play yourself and not the opponent, those things are going to
happen."
OSU Players
QB Tony Lindsay
On the first quarter
"Everything went the way we wanted it to. Everything went as planned. We
just went from there, executed and did well. We just needed to keep up the
hard game."
On Kansas State
"We knew they were a good team, and we weren't going to overlook that. We
knew it was going to be a fight. No matter how the game went. When we were
up 21-0, we still knew they were going to come at us. It was just a matter
of us keep on pushing forward."
WR Terance Richardson
On OSU's offensive plays
"We tried to keep them on their toes and keep them on their feet by
spreading it out a little bit and going with different formations."
On Kansas State's kicking team
"They kept our return team off the field. I had three chances for returns
but only returned once. Pretty much our field position was based on where
they left the ball."
On Kansas State's productive second half
"They went in at halftime and made some adjustments. They shut our offense
down. They put a lot of pressure on Tony (Lindsay) in the second half. He
couldn't get our passes off."
LB Kenyatta Wright
On Kansas State converting third downs
"We just didn't execute on third downs. At first, they were going three and
out a couple times, but in the second half, we just didn't execute our game
plan. They got a couple of deep plays on third downs, and that really ruined
us this game."
On QB Jonathan Beasley's 311-yard passing performance
"They mass protected on the front side, and he rode it out a little bit to
get enough time to throw the ball up in the air and give his receivers a
chance to make a play. They did well with that.We just need to regroup and
get ready for a tough game next week because we have Texas A&M."
