OSU-Nebraska Football Postgame Notes
October 02, 1999 | Cowboy Football
Oct. 2, 1999
LINCOLN, Neb. --
- Nebraska?s 21 first-quarter points equal the most scored against a Bob Simmons-coached OSU team in an opening stanza. Texas scored 21 first-quarter points in last year?s game Nov. 7 in Austin, OSU came back in that game but lost 37-34. The last time an OSU opponent scored more points in one quarter was 1996, when Texas scored 30 second-quarter tallies on its way to a 71-14 victory in Austin.
- The Cowboys were shut out in the first half for the first time since trailing Tulsa 21-0 in last year?s 35-20 loss in Tulsa.
- Nebraska?s first-quarter block of a Scott Elder punt was the first punt block by an OSU opponent since Texas Tech rejected an OSU offering in last year?s game in Lubbock. OSU had two punts blocked last season, the other came against Mississippi State, which blocked an OSU punt for its first touchdown in the Cowboys? victory in Stillwater.
- Sophomore TE Marcellus Rivers? third-quarter touchdown reception was his third this season and the seventh of his career.
- Sophomore QB B.J. Tiger?s TD pass to Rivers was his third passing TD and the fourth overall TD of his season and career.
- Senior WR Terance Richardson?s 39-yard punt return in the third quarter was his fifth punt return of 20 yards or more this season. With 231 yards in punt returns this season through four games, Richardson is on pace to break the school record for punt-return yardage (521) set two years ago by R.W. McQuarters. Richardson also caught two passes in a game for the first time this year, moving him past Mark Cromer into 18th in OSU career receptions with 67.
- Junior TB Jamaal Fobbs, who recorded both the longest rush and the first rushing TD of the season by a Nebraska opponent, scored his second rushing touchdown of the season and the eighth of his career. He also has three receiving TDs in his career. Fobbs gained 67 yards on the ground, moving past Jack Reynolds on the OSU career rushing chart. He now has 1,486 yards in his career, good for 19th place.
- Senior TB Nathan Simmons gained 51 yards rushing today and moved into 16th place on the OSU career rushing chart with 1,850 yards. He passed Jim Dillard on the list.
- The 24-point margin of defeat marks the narrowest in the series in Lincoln since Nebraska defeated OSU 63-42 in 1998.
- The Cowboys have lost 24 straight games to the Cornhuskers and have not won in the last 36 games between the schools. The teams tied in 1973 in Stillwater, and OSU?s two victories in the series came in the first two meetings, in 1960 and 1961.
