The Week Ahead: Oklahoma State closes out its four-game homestand this weekend when the Cowgirls take on Iowa State and Nebraska in Big 12 action. OSU and Iowa State will play on Friday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. while the Cowgirls and Cornhuskers will tangle on Sunday, Oct. 24, at 1 p.m. Oklahoma State will need to win at least one of the games to remain alive for the Big 12 tournament.
Last Week for OSU: The Cowgirls split a pair of conference games at home, defeating Texas Tech 2-1 last Friday, before falling to Baylor 4-0 on Sunday. Kellie White and Mercy Morrical both scored their second goals of the year in the win over the Red Raiders. OSU trailed Baylor 1-0 at halftime before the Bears erupted for three goals in the second half.
About Iowa State: The Cyclones are 10-5-0 overall and 3-4 in conference action after splitting with Missouri and Kansas over the weekend. Missouri defeated Iowa State last Friday 4-3, but the Cyclones came back for a 2-0 win over Kansas on Sunday. Forward Erica Florez leads the team with nine goals and six assists on the season followed by Krista Odenwald's four goals and seven assists. Goalkeeper Lynley Hilligoss has spent the majority of time in net with a 1.42 goals against average and 89 saves in 14 games played. Head coach Cathy Klein has posted a 40-34-1 ledger in four seasons in Ames. Oklahoma State leads the series against ISU 2-1, but the Cyclones won 2-1 last season in Ames.
About Nebraska: The Cornhuskers are 14-1-1 overall and 7-0 in the Big 12 after defeating Kansas and Missouri by a combined 13-2 margin last weekend. Nebraska was ranked No. 4 last week and its only loss of the season was a 3-2 overtime decision to Santa Clara on Sept. 19. Midfielder Meghann Anderson leads the team in scoring with 13 goals and six assists for 32 points in 16 games. Goalkeeper Karina LeBlanc has a minuscule 0.56 goals against average and eight and a half shutouts this season, including five in conference action. John Walker is in his sixth season as head coach of the Cornhuskers and has gone 96-22-2 in that span. He has led Nebraska to three straight NCAA tournaments. Nebraska has a 3-0 series lead over Oklahoma State, including a 6-0 win last season in Lincoln.
Cowgirl Notes: Oklahoma State closes out the regular season on the road against TCU on Oct. 27 ... The Cowgirls are 3-3 in Friday contests this season ... Mercy Morrical will be spotlighted in this weekend's edition of the Big 12 Showcase, she will be presented with her Big 12 Community Champion award along with basketball players Doug Gottlieb and Devon Magness ... Last Friday's win over Texas Tech pushed Oklahoma State's conference win total to two, surpassing last season's mark of 1-6-3 ... Promotions for this weekend include a free hot chocolate mug and a chance to win a Brianna Scurry autograph on Friday, while the first 100 fans receive free popcorn and coke at Sunday's contest.
