Rutherford owns a marketing/management degree from Oklahoma Christian. He played three seasons for the Eagles (2013-16) under legendary head coach Dan Hays and helped the school through a successful transition from NAIA to NCAA Division II. He was a starter during the program’s first full year of D-II membership (2015-16) and led the team in assists.
Following Hays’ retirement, Rutherford transferred to St. Gregory’s in Shawnee, Okla. where he averaged 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds his way to third team All-Sooner Athletic Conference status. He was one of the NAIA’s top shooters that year, knocking down 42% of his threes and 90.4% from the free throw line (No. 3 nationally).
Originally from Bellaire, Texas, Rutherford helped lead Episcopal High School to a 30-2 record and the Southwest Preparatory Conference’s Division I title during his senior season.
