Chris McKenzie joined Cowboy Baseball in August 2023, bringing his unique skill set to Stillwater as the program’s athletic trainer and physical therapist.
With more than three decades of sports medicine experience, McKenzie has a wealth of experience working with collegiate, professional and Olympic athletes.
“Chris’s background as both an athletic trainer and a physical therapist provides our players with the best daily care possible,” said OSU head coach Josh Holliday. “His extensive work inside the game of baseball along with his unique time working in the NBA provides great insight into the modern athlete and things needed to stay healthy and perform at the highest level."
McKenzie earned a doctorate in physical therapy from Rosalind Franklin University in 2015 and also holds a degree in physical therapy from Ohio University and a master’s degree in orthopedic physical therapy from the University of Indianapolis.
Since 2015, McKenzie has operated McKenzie Athletic Concepts in Ponca City, Okla., a company he founded that provides individualized performance assessment, rehabilitation and training for athletes and which has served over 20 NBA players and teams in the USA and Canada.
McKenzie has a strong background in professional baseball. For the better part of a decade, he was involved in research and as a consultant for numerous Major League Baseball teams, including the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox, Oakland Athletics, Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Rays.
McKenzie’s extensive list of professional practice includes a stint as the director of physical therapy and athletic training for the NBA’s Milwaukee Bucks from 2013-15, where among his many duties he integrated strength and conditioning, rehab, massage and recovery teams nationwide for player use as well as identified specialized performance programming for player development.
From 2004-13, McKenzie was the manager of sports medicine rehab services at the Ohio State University Sports Medicine Center in Columbus, Ohio, and also served as an adjunct associate professor in the department of orthopedics in OSU’s College of Medicine.
McKenzie served as an athletic trainer for the USA Women’s Hockey Team in 2013 and for USA Diving from 2005-07.
