Roland Fanning returned to the OSU baseball staff in August 2019 as the Cowboys’ Director of Player Development.
Fanning is back in Stillwater for a second stint after previously serving as OSU’s volunteer assistant coach in 2013 and 2014.
A native of Coalgate, Okla., Fanning was an assistant coach at Kentucky for three seasons from 2017-19. He served as the Wildcats’ recruiting coordinator and helped sign three classes that ranked in the top 20 nationally.
During his tenure at UK, Fanning helped coach 21 Major League Baseball Draft picks, including 13 from the 2018 team, as well as seven All-Americans and nine All-SEC performers. In 2017, the Wildcats made the first NCAA Super Regional appearance in program history.
After leaving OSU following the Cowboys’ 2014 Big 12 championship and NCAA Super Regional season, Fanning joined the coaching staff at Arkansas-Little Rock and spent two seasons with the Trojans, where he helped develop Ryan Scott into an All-American.
“My wife and I are beyond thankful to be headed back to Stillwater, Oklahoma, home of America’s Brightest Orange!” Fanning said. “I can’t thank Josh Holliday and Coach (Mike) Holder enough for their vision in making this possible. Teaming back up with this dream team staff will be fun, and I look forward to opening O’Brate Stadium with a bang.”
Fanning’s collegiate playing career included stops at Carl Albert State, Northern Oklahoma-Enid and Southeastern Oklahoma. His coaching career began at his alma mater, Southeastern, and he was an assistant for the Savage Storm from 2008-12.
Fanning and his wife, Beverly, have two daughters, Emery Jo and Eastyn.
