Sports Medicine Student Aide

The Sports Medicine department at Oklahoma State University offers students an opportunity to become a Sports Medicine/Athletic Trainer Student Aide. This is a paid position with the athletics department and it can give you valuable experiences if you are interested in Sports Medicine.
About the Program
Athletic training aides are employed to assist the full-time staff in daily operations of the sports medicine department at Cowboy Football which includes practices, games and workouts. We are looking for an undergraduate student who is dependable, dedicated, and reliable. Also someone who can act with professionalism as well as work with a team.
A day for a Sports Medicine Aid can be broken up into 4 main parts, treatments and maintenance, pre-practice setup and taping, practice, and post practice break down. Sports Medicine Aides assist the staff Athletic Trainers with preventative taping, first aid and other duties as requested by the staff Athletic Training staff. While at Practice you are responsible for hydration and paying attention to what is happening and alerting the Athletic Trainers if something or someone needs attention. At times this position can be physically demanding and have long hours. Sports Medicine Aide students may be asked to move bulky equipment such as tables, exercise machines and lift heavy items such as water coolers.
This position must be able to commit to 15-30 hours per week dependent on time of season. Work schedule will vary according to practice and event schedules. Schedules can change depending on availability of facilities and weather changes. Athletic events can take place on weekends and holidays.
While this programs helps students learn more about athletic training it is not a degree program. As a member of our student sports medicine aid program and the sports medicine department, athletic trainer aides will be held to a high standard. Participants must maintain a high level of professionalism. Student Aides are viewed and recognized as representative of Oklahoma state athletics as well as Oklahoma State University therefore students must be able to uphold and abide by all the sports medicine department, athletics’ department and NCAA rules and regulations. Students must also must be compliant and follow rules for HIPPA information.
Responsibilities
- Set up and Tear down of practice and games
- Athletic Training room set up, closing duties, stocking and inventory
- Hydration and First Aid during practices
- Assist with taping in preparation for practice and games
- As well as other duties to help sports medicine operate smoothly

Job Requirements
- Must be able to move heavy and sometimes bulky equipment
- Must be a undergraduate student at Oklahoma State
