Oklahoma State University Athletics
Non-Football Tailgating
For the 2021 seasons -Â Tailgating is TBD.
Tailgating is a cherished tradition and an important part of the game day experience at Oklahoma State University. We are committed to promoting a safe environment and the best possible game day experience for everyone who visits OSU Athletic venues, OSU and Stillwater.
In order to ensure a safe and family friendly atmosphere tailgating is limited to designated areas on campus. Please view Oklahoma State University's tailgating map (see map) to view public available and prohibited areas for tailgating.
In addition, all fans on OSU property are prohibited from the following actions/activities.
- Behavior that is unruly, disruptive or illegal in nature.
- Foul and/or abusive language, obscene gestures and/or loud noise that interferes with the experience of other fans.
- Possession of prohibited items (list of items).
- Verbal and/or physical harassment of anyone, including visiting team fans.
- Failure to follow instructions from authorized OSU officials and/or law enforcement personnel.
- Intoxication of any kind, underage possession/consumption of alcohol, drinking games and/or any illegal activity involving alcohol including but not limited to:
- Legal drinking age is 21; no one under the age of 21 may consume or possess any form of alcohol.
- It is illegal to furnish alcohol to anyone under the age of 21.
- Allowing underage drinking at your tailgate is illegal under Oklahoma's Social Host Law.
- It is illegal to be intoxicated in public.
- It is illegal to serve alcohol to a person you know or have reason to believe is intoxicated.
- It is illegal to sell or serve alcohol without a license or beer without a permit. This includes service in exchange for tips and donations.
- Federal Law prohibits the use, possession or cultivation of marijuana for any reason on the OSU campus and also prohibits the use and distribution of marijuana for any reason at events authorized or supervised by OSU. Even with the evolving state law permitting marijuana for medical reasons, consuming, smoking or possessing marijuana, even with a card or prescription permitting medical marijuana use is illegal on the OSU campus.

In case of emergency, call 911. For non-emergencies, call University Police at 405-744-6524.
Â
The following Tailgates Rules are for fall, winter and spring sports, including baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, track, men’s and women’s basketball, wresting, equestrian, soccer and the spring football game. Football has its own tailgating rules for regular-season games in the fall (Football Tailgating Rules).
- Tailgating on campus, in POSSE parking lots and in general game day parking lots, is permitted for most OSU sporting events. Campus lots/spaces are available for general public parking on weekends and after 5 p.m. weekdays, unless posted.Â
 - The setting up of tents, awnings, chairs and similar equipment may commence at 8:00 a.m. on the day of the sporting event BUT only on grounds in close proximity to the facility for that sport. Sites within POSSE parking lots and game day parking lots may not be staged prior to the opening time for the lot. Tailgate items may not be set up in parking lots until after 5 p.m. Monday – Friday.
Â
- All tailgating activities on university property must end, and items associated with a tailgate must be taken down and removed, by the latter of 10:00 p.m. or two hours following the conclusion of the event. This includes parking lots and campus green spaces. Property remaining after the times listed above will be considered abandoned.
Â
- Any such items that are set up outside of this timeframe (listed in #2 & #3), or on sidewalks or that collapse or are blown off their sites will be removed by university personnel. Tailgate tent frames, chairs and other items must not be placed on sidewalks at anytime. Items found in violation will be removed by the University. You may inquire about lost or unclaimed items by calling 405-744-2844.
Â
- Tailgating activities that take up vacant POSSE parking / general game day parking spaces are prohibited, unless a parking permit for each parking space it occupies is displayed and has been checked in with lot attendant. For safety purposes, vehicles, trailers and tailgating items cannot block driving lanes. In order to protect parking lot surfaces, tents, awnings, and similar items requiring ground stakes are prohibited.
Â
- Tents including and up to sizes of 10'x10' and 20'x20' are acceptable on campus. Tents, awnings, and similar equipment must be securely anchored. To avoid damaging underground irrigation systems and other utilities, ballasted weights with sandbags, water jugs, concreted buckets, etc. are strongly encouraged.
OSU's updated Excavation Permit Procedure as guided by the Oklahoma Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Act effects use of large (10'X20' or larger) tents.
Larger commercial-type tents that cannot be properly ballasted are discouraged from being used. In the case where larger tents must be staked and ballasts are not an option, an OKIE811 (Oklahoma One-Call System) locate request is to be made no more than 10 days in advance and not less than 48 hours before the date of the event by calling 811 or visiting OKIE811.org. A separate OKIE request must be made for each tent setup. Authorized locators will paint colored lines designating utilities and stakes must not be placed in those locations. The OKIE811 excavation permit must be available and visibly posted at the large tent tailgate during the length of time the tent is in place. Failure to follow these guidelines will result in the tent being taken down at a cost to the tailgater and jeopardizing any future tailgating opportunities. Any damage to utilities as a result of not following this policy will also be the responsibility of the tailgater.
The full excavation permit guidelines can be found at http://utilities. okstate.edu/excavation-procedure
Â
- No vehicles are permitted to drive on campus green spaces and or sidewalks at any time. Trailers and cooking trailers on campus green spaces designated for tailgating must be manually placed – no exceptions. Trailers and cooking trailers that are too heavy for manual placement on campus green spaces must park in a parking lot or in the designated area east of the track and field complex, north of McElroy Road. The campus grounds have continued to experience significant damage from vehicles, trailers and cooking trailers over the last few years with ruts, broken irrigation heads, and damage to trees. Cooking trailers or grills are not allowed under trees. The heat from the grilling has scalded and killed several trees on campus. Please help us preserve our urban campus forest by not cooking under tree canopies and use extreme caution to not break, prune or damage trees.
Â
- Unlike football game days, the University does not have any options at this time for preregistering for reserved tailgating areas throughout campus. All tailgating areas are First Come, First Served.
Â
- Corporate or commercially sponsored tailgates are prohibited except in designated locations. Those who wish to organize and provide such sites should contact Cowboy Sports Properties at 405-744-3482. Extinguished charcoal and ashes must be disposed of off campus property and may not be dumped on the lawn, around trees or trash cans. Burn ban laws do apply to tailgating at all times. Violators may be subject to prosecution.
Â
- The hooking into, connecting to, or similar use of OSU utilities and/or television or communication cable services is prohibited.
Â
- Any person damaging OSU property will be responsible for repairs or replacement cost. Violators may be subject to prosecution.
Â
- Small non-university vehicles such as golf carts, all-terrain vehicles, utility vehicles and the like are prohibited on campus green spaces and sidewalks. Only street legal golf carts, all-terrain vehicles, and utility vehicles are permitted on public streets & parking lots (must have POSSE parking pass to enter POSSE parking lots) on game days. All violators will be subject to being ticketed by law enforcement and are subject to impoundment.
