Official and Unofficial Visit Policy
Official and Unofficial Visit Policy For Prospective Student Athletes
Oklahoma State University Philosophy for the Recruitment of Student-Athletes
Oklahoma State University fully expects its Athletic Department to conduct an exemplary recruiting program for all its intercollegiate sports. The University does not condone violation of laws or rules.
The goal of official recruitment visits is, first, to provide the opportunity for prospective student-athletes to identify opportunities and advantages that OSU offers for recruits to identify and critically evaluate their individual goals for athletic improvements and success, academic challenge and social involvement, as well as personal and civic responsibility.
Secondly, an official visit provides for institutional evaluation of a prospect's preparation and aptitude for the educational and enrichment programs offered by the university, as well as his or her ability to enhance the intercollegiate sport of their choice. Official visits assist the university to determine if prospects will meet the behavioral expectations of the university should they become OSU student-athletes.
It is the philosophy of Oklahoma State University that the conduct of all employees, coaches, and student-athletes will be exemplary during the recruiting process. Compliance with Big 12 Conference and NCAA rules, as well as compliance with all applicable laws and local ordinances is essential.
An official visit and unofficial visit for a prospective student-athlete is intended to provide the prospect with the opportunity to become familiar with the experience of being a student-athlete at Oklahoma State University and the athletics and educational opportunities that are available while a student-athlete. As a result, the prospect's experience while on an official or unofficial visit must reflect the manner in which our student-athletes traditionally live, socialize, and interact with the community while enrolled as students at the institution.
Prospective student-athletes and their student hosts are prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages or using illegal drugs during an official visit or unofficial visit, regardless of the prospect's or host's age. Alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs may not be provided or arranged for prospects by student-athletes, student hosts, coaches and athletics department staff members or any other individuals affiliated with the athletics department.
Prospective student-athletes and their student hosts are prohibited from participating in any gambling or gaming activities during an official or unofficial visit.
Prospective student-athletes on official or unofficial visits shall not be entertained in any adult entertainment facilities (i.e., strip clubs) or through the use of strippers, exotic dancers, adult movie theaters, adult video, escort services or any type of pornographic materials.
The value of meals provided to prospective student-athletes and their parents and/or spouses on official visits shall not exceed $75 per person, per meal. The restrictions shall also apply to any athletics department staff members and their spouses that accompany a prospect at a meal during an official visit.
Prior to the start of each official visit the prospective student-athlete will be made aware of these policies and the expectations of prospects on official visits and all individuals that interact with prospects during official visits (i.e., student-athletes, student hosts, coaches, athletics department staff members). The prospect will be required to sign an agreement to follow Oklahoma State University's Official Visit Guidelines at the beginning of the official visit.
Individuals serving as student hosts for prospective student-athletes will be required to review this policy and the expectations of prospects and their student hosts during official visits. Student hosts will be required to sign an agreement to abide by Oklahoma State University's Student Host Instructions prior to the receipt of student host funds.
These policies will be reviewed with all student-athletes. A copy of this policy will be posted in all locker rooms and the Athletics Student Services area for review by student-athletes throughout the academic year.
Failure to abide by the Official Visit Policy may result in disciplinary actions taken against the violators of this policy, which may include discontinuation of the recruiting process, dismissal from athletics teams, revoking of athletics scholarships or scholarship offers and loss of employment.
