Oklahoma State University Athletics
The Oklahoma State Equestrian team utilizes a number of areas for their practices and upkeep of their horses. The Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center is located on a 50-acre farm located on the corner of McElroy and Western and a 44-acre pasture on Sangre Road.
The main practice arena is the Atherton Family Arena, which is a 135 by 270 square foot covered arena that has wind screens on the north and west sides. The team also uses the 140 by 75 square foot outdoor arena and a 100 by 200 foot climate controlled indoor arena. The team maintains approximately 60 head of horses used for practice and NCEA collegiate competitions.
The horse herd consists of both Western and Jumping Seat horses that were acquired from donors across the country. The Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center consists of a saddling barn that includes coaches’ offices, locker rooms, a tack room and an athletic training satellite office. It also has a 24-stall horse barn with outdoor runs and several paddocks and pastures.The Nielson-Vargo Team Building houses all team meetings, including a once a month meeting with sports psychologist Brett Ledbetter.Â

Dr. Robert. E. Totusek was well-known in the Animal Agriculture industry and made significant contributions to Oklahoma State University. Decades ago, he had the vision and plan to build Animal Science Arena, which includes an almost 18,000 square foot floor with adjacent seating for 779 people and a 1,675 square foot classroom. The arena remains a state of the art structure that facilitates the three-fold land grant mission of our University and Animal Science Department.
In the fall of 2000, a new saddling barn and outdoor arena were built near the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center for the Cowgirl Equestrian program. The new saddling barn features a larger tack room, a locker room for the team members, and coaches offices. The program is scheduled to start construction in the fall of 2021 on its team building, which will be a multipurpose facility that includes a team lounge with study area and a fueling station.
