Cowboy Baseball Sweeps Cincinnati
April 05, 2026 | Cowboy Baseball
The weekend sweep marked the second of the season for the Pokes and the first in Big 12 play as OSU improved to 21-11 overall and 6-6 in Big 12 play. UC fell to 21-13 and 4-8 in the league.
The Cowboys' 10 runs marked the 14th time this season their offense has reached double digits, including all three games of the UC series.
Colin Brueggemann, Aidan Meola and TP Wentworth all went deep, while Kollin Ritchie and Campbell Smithwick both had multi-hit games. The Pokes drew nine walks on the day, with Brock Thompson and Garrett Shull each earning three free passes.
Jake Kennedy came on in relief and earned the win, his second of the series. The right-hander worked four scoreless innings while striking out five. Over his two outings against the Bearcats, Kennedy dealt six shutout frames while only allowing two hits and striking out eight.
Bryce LeBlanc took the mound for his first start of the season and tossed 2 1/3 innings of one-run ball, striking out four.
LeBlanc opened the game with a pair of scoreless innings before the Cowboys got on the board via a Brueggemann solo home run in the second. The blast was his third of the series, fifth of the week and ninth of the season.
The Bearcats responded in the third inning with a solo shot of their own from Derrick Pitts to tie the game before Kennedy entered to replace LeBlanc.
Alex Conover led off the bottom of the third with a single, his sixth hit of the series, and then stole second base. From there, Thompson drove Conover in with a go-ahead single to the opposite field. After another single from Ritchie, Meola detonated on a three-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 5-1.
The Cowboys loaded the bases in the fourth on 12 consecutive balls from Cincinnati pitching, and with two outs, Smithwick laced an RBI single to make it a 6-1 game.
Kennedy tossed his third-straight scoreless inning in the sixth before the Pokes added some insurance runs at the plate in the bottom of the frame. Meola drove in a run, while Brueggemann plated another with an RBI-groundout. Wentworth then lifted a two-run home run into the right field bullpen to push the lead to 10-1. The long ball was his eighth of the year and third of the weekend.
After recording one more out in the seventh, Kennedy yielded to Drew Blake, who got out of the inning on a diving grab from Conover in left field that saved a run from scoring.
Cincinnati pushed across three runs in the eighth to cut the lead to 10-4, but Noah Wech came on in the ninth and struck out two to secure the sweep.
The Cowboys return to action Tuesday when they host Oral Roberts. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
